Filming for my Music Video

Image
The first part of the filming process was having to create a dark nightclub scene. I had to dim my lights and use my TV to create flashing colors. I then put the music of the song I chose in the background to match the lip singing in the video. Since I did not have enough people to create a big club scene or extra people in the back, I have altered the set up of the music video to only show me for the most of the song, with extra videos embedded into it to make it look like I am thinking of past times. My friend helped film the music video, while my brother helped with the lights and making sure no extra people showed up in the background. After setting up the scene, my friend filmed the video horizontally, creating a steady movement back and forth, and titling the camera when needed. The outfit I had on was bright and classy, while I danced in the middle of the hallway. I had to re-film some scenes due to a dark shadow, and fix the lighting mult...

Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
First Scene: The camera will fade into me in a dark room with colorful lights and loud music. I will be dressed in bright colors and makeup, surrounded by a party scene while the music begins to play. I will be in a hallway, by myself, to show I am the main singer. Second Scene: The camera will shift to a different scene where more people are included while the song plays in the background. The actors will be dressed formally, sitting on a couch or in a crowded hallway. It will show the actors laughing and flirting with each other. Third Scene: The next scene is a close up of me in the colorful hallway, singing the song, while it fades to things happening at the same time. I will be dressed the same way, and makeup will be the same. My emotions are happy, while the others being showed are as well.  Fourth Scene: The camera will then shift back and forth between me and another character, singing the same lyrics of the song. This is all happening while other flashbacks are pla...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
The name of the song I have chose is "Boyfriend-Big Time Rush". In the music video, the artist's are shown at a club scene, where the main singer is singing to the camera in front of a wall. Props to recreate this is going to be a flashlight, my TV and a sheer blanket. The flashlight is going to be uses to create a strobe light, while my TV will be used to show another color other than white, to make it look like I am in a club. The sheer blanket will be used as a background, where it shows shadows dancing behind it while the music is playing. In the music video, the costumes shown are leather jackets with a regular shirt under, a tuxedo, and regular shoes or dress shoes. In the music video I am going to create, I will have a leather jacket with a regular shirt underneath, black jeans and regular shoes, since I am creating only a snippet of the video. The location will take place at my house, in the hallway, or in my room. If that does not work out, I will go...

Research Blog: Music Video

Image
The music video I have chose is included in the pop music genre. In pop music videos, there are a lot of bright colors used, to give a sense of happiness. There is lots of makeup involved and fashion accessories. As far as the lighting goes, there are a lot of tints and filters to enhance the colors. For camera angles, there are many close up of the artist's face, and long shots of dancing scenes. The camera focuses usually on the main artists for most of the music video, just like how a movie mostly focuses on the main character. Pop music videos are more about the performance, where it is flashy and energetic. The music in the pop genre is normally based around love and relationships. This attracts the main audience of this genre, which is teen. This genre also tends to follow current trends, instead of being unique. This is because it already attracts the type of audience it is looking for. In music videos like One Direction, the setting...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this project, I will be working independently. I chose to work independently because it allows me to work at my own pace, my own time, and there will be fewer distractions. The name of the song I chose is Boyfriend-Big Time Rush. This song is from the iconic show, Big Time Rush. This was a boy band, and a group of friends who wrote and produced songs together. I chose this song because it reminds me of my childhood, and it is catchy. Big time rush consisted of 4 boys from Minnesota who moved to Los Angeles to pursue their pop star dreams. The names of these boys were Kendall, James, Logan and Carlos. Their producer is named Gustavo, and their producing agency is called Rocque Records.

  1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My product uses conventions by showing the technology and setting of a typical commercial by Apple. It also provides the same futuristic theme by adding the same type of music found in the background of the commercial, with similar camera angles and movements. This represents social groups by connecting others through technology. This develops communication between distance. 2. How does your p roduct engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with audiences by showing how two people can communicate or meet each other without having to be near one another. In this day in age, technology is evolving and becoming very popular. This is where people find new friends and relationships, share their life, etc. This would be described as a real media text because it can be put on all platforms. I created a commercial, where ...

My Commercial

Image
This was the first commercial I have ever tried making. Re-watching and looking back at the project, there are some tweaks I could have made, to improve the quality of the video. Throughout this project, I have learned many aspects of filming. For example, I used different angles, and adjusting the lighting. I also edited sound to play in the background, and to insert different clips. I am proud of the outcome of this project, and satisfied with all I have learned throughout the process of filming and editing.

In the picture below, I am editing the first part of the commercial. I attempted to do a match cut, where I took two different scenes, and played them back and forth, while the screen was rotating. This is to display the product and what it looks like. I slowed down both of the scenes in the beginning, to show the back and the color more. The next scene transitions to the opening screen where you first power on your phone. I placed text beside the iPhone to show the model type, and what type of phone it is. The next scene fades to the Iphone floating, with a plain background, and more informative text on the side. I included music into the background that fits the theme of the commercial, which is modern and futuristic. Most of the isolated phone scenes are slowed down because it gives the video a more calm feeling, instead of it staying the same speed. The outside scene's lighting was adjusted to accentuate the sky, making it more aesthetically pleasing. I a...

Filming Blog

On October 30th, I started filming the first part of the commercial. I used an old phone to film the appearance of the Iphone, introducing the product. The only neutral sheet I had for the background was a black bed sheet. I had to adjust the setting of the camera, to darken the background and isolate the product. I then used a string to allow the phone to hang, giving it the effect that the phone was rotating. For the outside scene, the weather was cloudy, and not much sun was out. I still used my backyard for the camera quality aspect of the commercial. I had my family members participate by holding the phone and playing outside, while I record on another phone. The family member recording, shows kids jumping on a trampoline, having fun, while giving it a high definition effect. I directed the whole outside scene, where the actors played, and how the actors stood. I filmed this scene after finish the introduction and ending, because the set was already made. For the insid...
