Research Blog: Music Video

     



    The music video I have chose is included in the pop music genre. In pop music videos, there are a lot of bright colors used, to give a sense of happiness. There is lots of makeup involved and fashion accessories. As far as the lighting goes, there are a lot of tints and filters to enhance the colors. For camera angles, there are many close up of the artist's face, and long shots of dancing scenes. The camera focuses usually on the main artists for most of the music video, just like how a movie mostly focuses on the main character. Pop music videos are more about the performance, where it is flashy and energetic. The music in the pop genre is normally based around love and relationships. This attracts the main audience of this genre, which is teen. This genre also tends to follow current trends, instead of being unique. This is because it already attracts the type of audience it is looking for. In music videos like One Direction, the setting is usually at a place where dates can take place, like the beach or at a carnival. Clothes used in pop music videos may be something you can move around in, or something attractive. The artist, usually focuses on the camera, instead of looking somewhere else. This creates a sense that they are singing directly to you.

  This website shows only a movie's title sequence where you can watch and study. This website has different categories to choose from, featuring popular films people usually watch. Throughout looking through this website, I learned how important a title sequence is towards a movie. The title sequence sets the mood for what's about to happen, and make the audience interested. With a uninformative, boring title sequence, the audience can being to lose interest in the movie. What I also learned is that the titles need to flow smoothly with the transitions. Every title sequence I watched shows the titles moving throughout the different scenes, which gets the moving going. For example, if the title does not flow throughout the opening sequence, and just disappear and come back, it looks unprofessional and not smooth. This would also make it harder to further the scene.

Editing and Taking Breaks

                        I have almost come to the end of the final task. So far, I have shot all of the scenes needed, and started editing some of the clips together. While reviewing the scenes, I noticed that the lighting was off in some parts. I had to have someone in my family help me record these scenes again. For example, The beginning scene was too dark because of how early it was, so we had to pretend it was early in the morning for the scene. I have a light dimmer, so I adjusted the lighting to create a brighter look. I also had to re-shoot the kitchen scenes because there was too much background noise that could not be canceled out. After re-shooting these, I imported them into my editing software. The first thing I did for editing is putting all of the videos in order. Genre research: The Hate U Give

  "The Hate U Give" shares the story of a young girl who lives in a poor, black neighborhood, but attends a mostly white preparatory school. One night she went to a party and found one of her childhood friends. The friend offers to take her home, but before that, they catch up some more. Throughout these scenes, a police officer pulls them over, and ends up shooting and killing the childhood friend because he was scared of an inanimate object. The film shines a light on police brutality and the many occasions people of color are villainized for doing nothing. Some elements this movie has that I like is the plot. The plot distinctly shares the issues society faces, while also making it interesting to watch by following the guidelines of the climax sequence.
