Title Research: The Borrowers
I watched this opening sequence on the watch the titles website where the titles shown are thin and black. The titles show the cast, crew, music producers and directors. This film was based on a book, so one of the titles shares which novel it was based off of and who the author was. The font changed to thin and white, because of the background changing. This is because you need to find the write color font that is easy to read which compliments the background color as well. Images prioritized in this opening is a Christmas village, kids toys, and a little boy looking through the glass of where these toys are. The little boy looks to his side to see a happy family with Christmas presents. The end of the opening sequence shows an advent calendar with a snowman on top saying "December 8". These images carry a melancholy connotation, as well as a joyful one. The little boy looks sad that he does not have what the other families have for Christmas, but the Christmas spirit and toys around him are all joyful. The film establishes a feeling of the genre from the outset by showing a close up of all the fun toys people get for Christmas, but emphasizes the emotions expressed on the little boy. Most dramas are faced with a problem that are soon fixed at the end, or end up in a catastrophe. The opening sequence starts off with a problem clearly stated. Strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience is the setting and the music used. The setting shows that it is Christmas time, and the music is based off of this. Most people love Christmas and usually watch these a lot. Technology used effectively in this film was close-ups of the toys in the store, focus pulls from the toy plane, eye line match from where the little boy was looking.
