Genre Research: Horror
The Powerpoint project above is a presentation of research about the horror genre. I explain the common lighting in the genre which is low-key lighting to emphasize the tension and suspense in the movies, showing only the shadows. Common angles were also explained like low-angle shots to share the weakness of a character. Common movement described in the powerpoint was handheld usually used in running scenes. The mis-en-scene involved is mostly gore consisting of a lot of blood and special effects. Some elements used is creepy rooms, screams and crazy characters like zombies. Examples of horror films include Scream, Us, and Ma. Sounds used behind these films are suspenseful, that start from quiet and progress louder as the suspense builds. Horror films are consisting of jump scares, and try to keep you on your feet. Most people don't carry an interest for films like these because it can easily give someone a nightmare, or scare them too bad. Therefore, most horror films are rated for older people because kids can become effected long term. Elements I do not like in horror movies are the jump scares because it makes my heart drop. A different element I am uncomfortable with, is the excessive amount of blood and vulgar objects used throughout the movie including the deaths happening.
