CCR for Music Video

 Creative Critical Reflection

1.     How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

My product was based around the pop genre. In this genre of music, it is more upbeat, full of dancing, and bold clothing. Most pop songs relate to relationships and what teen’s are into. My product revolves around relationships, and looking for them. The beat is joyful, and the accessories are bold. The setting of most pop songs are near the beach, at a carnival or a public setting where multiple people are seen in the background and make appearances through the video. My product does the opposite, and switches back and forth from one girl to another. This represents the teen group and what there likes and dislikes are, and goes out of the way to connect to the teen group.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My product engages with audiences by advertising an upbeat song that you can listen to day to day. Pop songs are typically targeted towards the modern generation, and shares a common relationship with loved ones. In other words, it creates a connection and an understanding of how the modern generation communicates, and gives them something that they like. When targeting a main group, we have more clientele. This distributes as a real media text by sharing a video recording of a well crafted and planned reenactment of a music video. You can watch this video on YouTube, and it can be posted on any other social media.

3.     How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Throughout the music video, I learned more camera movements. I also learned the effects of altering the lighting can have on your video. It can create dark shadows, and draw attention from the main subject. While editing, I learned how to use transitions on the Openshot editing software without it looking awkward. I also embedded a sound to the video in the background and lined it up with the words from the original video. I learned to cut videos and place them at other times, while altering the speed of the video. For example, I would switch from slomo to regular time at different parts of the video.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

I used my phone to record the whole music video, by creating different scenes, and separate videos. As far as editing, I used an editing software called “Openshot”, and a YouTube to MP3 converter found online. These 2 softwares helped with the whole project. Openshot allows you to cut, insert, use transitions, alter volume and speed, etc. the YouTube to MP3 converter helped me get the song of the music video and embed it into the editing Software. After editing, I then went to YouTube to upload the video to private, and Blogger to upload the music video from YouTube to the blog.
